Potential green jobs boost as retrofitting could be required in 75% of UK homes

The government's commitment to cutting CO2 emissions by 80 per cent by 2050 could mean retrofits are required for large numbers of UK homes, according to one expert – potentially creating new green jobs.

Gordon Miller, founder of Whatgreenhome.com, says around 75 per cent of current homes in Britain are still likely to be around in 2050, meaning work will have to be undertaken.

The same report also showed that while numbers had fallen in 11 Lo...

People in health jobs should be given access to CBT

People in health jobs which deal with chronic pain should be given better access to cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).

This is the view of Grahame Pope, head of physiotherapy education at the University of Nottingham, who spoke out after research undertaken by scientists at the University of Warwick found that a group of people receiving CBT reported double the improvement in chronic back pain than did a group without access to the therapy.

The study concluded that CBT was be...

IVF pregnancies more likely to end in stillbirth

Those in health jobs dealing with infertility need to be sure their patients know the risks of in-vitro fertilisation (IVF), it has been suggested.

Andrew Shennan, professor of obstetrics for baby charity Tommy's, said it was vital that IVF was used responsibly.

He spoke out after a Danish research project, published in the journal Human Reproduction, found that women who have conceived through fertility treatment are four times more likely to have a stillborn baby than those w...
