People seeking charity careers or green jobs are among those who may benefit from applying through a recruitment agency for work as many employers admit to being unable to process the number of direct applications.
A poll by Talent Puzzle suggested 71 per cent of employers felt they were losing out on potentially good employees as they lacked time to sort through CVs.
This approach has led to a lack of suitable candidates for available positions - despite the possibility the right person was actually available.
Virginia Raemy, CEO of TalentPuzzle, said: "To get the right people [employers] are dependent on working with recruitment agencies - they will look through all these CVs and will qualify a handful that they think are perfect for the role."
She indicated the recession had increased the number of job applications across all sectors, leaving employers with too many to process and insufficient quality control.
By going to a specialist recruitment agency, it could be possible for jobseekers to target specific sectors and use the firm's knowledge of the market to their advantage.
