Vital funding likely to help charity jobs-Charity job News 15 Dec 2009

Vital funding likely to help charity jobs

In news that could be of interest to people seeking charity jobs, the voluntary and social enterprise sector has been awarded some £3.6 million in grants to keep their services buoyant during the economic crisis.

Minister for the third sector Angela Smith the money would not only support their current endeavours but could also facilitate sector-wide collaboration through mergers and partnership working in order to expand the reach of existing charities.

This viewpoint was echoed by manager of the Croydon Appliance Reuse centre Ray Barwick, who said: "We want to be fully self-sustaining.

"We want to concentrate on getting new contracts ... we feel collaboration is the best way forward."

He went on to illustrate an example of one possible charity job that will have already become available thanks to this initiative - the position of communications consultant in his own organisation, which offers training and work experience to the disabled and long-term unemployed.

Sheffield Hillsborough MP Angela Smith also recently backed the funding for another charitable cause - that of the Heroes Return 2 programme aimed at taking World War II soldiers back to places of historical importance.
